Nigerians have started donating to raise funds for the family of a late Nigerian policeman, Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko, who died after the robbery of a Zenith Bank branch on Wetheral Road, Owerri, Imo State.
The cop lost his life after confronting a four-man gang in a gun battle, which was captured on a Closed Circuit Television camera.
In the 2.58 minutes video, the victim could be seen firing at the robbers before running out of a security post.
He was reported to have been injured during the incident and was admitted to a hospital where he died the following day.
Although the incident happened in February, the video clip was not released to the public until June, when it went viral on the social media.
Chukwudi’s widow, Mrs. Rose Iboko, told The PUNCH that the police authorities abandoned her and her eight children, adding that they had been suffering since their breadwinner died.
Rose lamented that one of the children, Chukwuebuka, slumped and died from shock during Chuwkwudi’s burial.
Following the SOS from the family, some readers urged The PUNCH to set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for the family.

2Face Idibia donates N3.5million to IDPs

Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, on Monday, February 27th, presented a cheque of N3.5million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lagos

Speaking at the presentation, the musician said that he was particularly touched when he visited camps of the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the North-East.
He called on other well-meaning Nigerians to come all out and support the International organisation in its effort at protecting the millions of Nigerians in the various camps.

"The conditions I met the internally displaced persons, when I visited their various camps were terrible. They were really terrible," he said.
"The 2Face Foundation has, therefore, decided to enter into partnership with the UNHCR to see how we can help put smiles on the faces of these persons. My foundation is today presenting this cheque to the UNHCR to support it in its operations of alleviating the sufferings of these IDPs," he added.
In her remark, the UNHCR’s Acting Country Representative to Nigeria, Ms Brigitte Mukango-Eno, commended 2Face for the humanitarian gesture, adding that her Agency currently needed public support for its operations in the North East.

Mukango-Eno, who was represented UNHCR’s External and Donor Relations Officer, Mr Hanson Tamfu, said that the activities of Boko Haram in the North- East had overstretched the agency’s financial base.
“We sincerely want to express the gratitude of the UNHCR to 2Face. This is a right step toward our private sector following. Over these years, it has become important for us, as an organisation, to depend on the private sector, for us to be able to meet our responsibilities. 2Face has scored a very important goal by discovering the UNHCR Office within the UN system. We want to use this opportunity to appeal to other private Nigerians and philanthropists to emulate this gesture by the 2Face Foundation in alleviating the conditions of the IDPs in the North East," she said.

Donate to save malnourished children

Over 200 malnourished children estimated to die in 2016 in Borno State, Nigeria!

Borno State, Nigeria (sub-Saharan Africa) is the most hit location by what’s considered the World’s worst terrorist group, Boko Haram.  Countless have been killed and even larger numbers displaced. Due to the vast lands and restricted access to many destroyed locations in the region, the extent of damage done and reality of the suffering of people there is still unknown to the world.

This has prevented a lot of humanitarian aid from reaching people in the destroyed communities and those in some IDP camps.

Controversial Malnourished Bama children
On May 30th, Empower 54 team accompanied the Deputy Governor of Borno State to Bama and noticed some extremely malnourished children. It was discovered the Nigerian Army rescued the malnourished children from Boko Haram’s captivity in the Sambisa Forest.

Bama, June 1st & Evacuations (June 13th & 15th)
Empower 54 returned to Bama to do a proper assessment and head count of the extremely malnourished children and their family members. On June 13th and June 15th, the Governor of Borno State assisted Empower 54 to ensure safe evacuation of the children and their families to Maiduguri for treatment.

Empower 54 successfully evacuated 1,800 malnourished children and their families. We are managing the medical center where they are.

Empower 54's Nutrition Center
The 1, 800 children we rescued are a fraction of those dying daily from malnutrition in sub-sahara Africa. Without proper planning, financial and technical support, more will die. Our center in Maiduguri is focused on rotational care of extremely malnourised children and adults due to insurgency.
It has the capacity of 2,000 patients.

Objectives of empower 54’s nutrition center
·      Save lives of malnourished children
·      Provide life saving medical services to millions of terrorist attacks living in destroyed communities in sub-Saharan Africa

Model
·      Evacuate extremely malnourished or sick IDPs from neighboring communities and IDP camps to center for treatment.
·      Upon recovery, they will be returned to the communities or camps along with resources/materials to enable them become self-sufficient.
·      Malnourished patients will be brought in on rotation basis because their treatment requires a minimum of 4 weeks intensive CMAM treatment.
·      Indigenous medical personnel will be hired and working full time at the centers while volunteer medical personnel will support them on rotational basis.

Your Donation Saves a Life!
In order to sustain the nutrition center, we need committed monthly donations to ensure sustainable purchase of RUTF for the children.

*It cost $0.60 per sachet of RUTF medication.
*A child needs 3 sachets daily = $1.80
*To save the child’s life by completing the CMAM treatment, 1 month supply of RUTF = $55.80!

As part of her efforts to put smiles on the faces of the less-privileged, Olori Wuraola Ogunwusi, the beautiful wife of Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is on the verge of drawing attention to the plights of orphans and women, especially in the Southwest.
Her organisation, the Olori Wuraola Orphan Aid Project, an initiative under the umbrella of House of Oduduwa Foundation, is working to empower the less-privileged children in Nigeria, regardless of their cultural and religious affiliations.

The project is committed to helping orphaned children in the country fulfill their potential.
We want to assist in the renovation of local orphanages and also provide food and supplies for orphans in rural areas of Nigeria and across Africa," Olori Wuraola said.

The concert is planned to create a medium for orphans in the country to have a sense of belonging.
According to Olori Wuraola, the concert would also explore the gifts and talents in the less- privileged children and expose them to opportunities capable of launching them into stardom in their various professions.

The funds realized from the concert would be used to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of their structures, activities and programs designed to ensure adequate and proper care for orphaned children.
More than 20 orphanages are lined up to benefit from the proceeds, which she promised would be used to renovate such orphanages.

With performances from top Nigerian artists, including Cobhams Asuquo, 2face and Darey Art Alade among others, the concert is expected to be a talk-of-the-town for a long time.

"We learned that orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes." __ In 2016, @UNICEF reports that there are over 153 million orphans in the world, many of whom live in institutional orphanages in deplorable conditions. The Queen of Ile-Ife Foundation is commited to help orphaned children fulfill their potential by assisting in the renovation of local orphanages while providing food and supplies for orphans in rural areas of Nigeria and across Africa
