Father of triplets cries out for help

Father of triplets cries out for help

Christopher Ejike is a 35-year-old unemployed man from Mbanese Clan, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Recently, the man and his wife, who already had two children, welcomed a set of triplets.
But the development has thrown the family into confusion. Right now, Ejike is appealing to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, his Lagos State counterpart, Akinwumi Ambode, as well as public-spirited individuals and philanthropic organisations to please come to his family’s aid.
His wife was delivered of the triplets on Friday, April 1, at the General Hospital, Surulere, Lagos without complications. But Ejike said he would be unable to adequately take care of the babies in addition to their two older siblings. He said his job as a tiler was not doing well, adding that his building materials business had been comatose because of the poor economic situation in the country.
Ejike said: “I felt like running away and leaving my wife and the children. But I know that if I had run, God would punish me. I had no choice but to give my all for the upkeep of my children. On several occasions, I’ve had to assist my wife to do the house chores while she takes care of the new babies. It has not been easy for me. I do not know where else to go. Our older two sons are not old enough to assist their mother in doing some of the house chores.
“My building materials business has been comatose for lack of enough fund, yet, to keep my family going, I took to tiling but it is not easy getting jobs on a regular bases. At the moment, all my attention is striving to make sure the babies are in good condition and I cannot cope with the situation. That is where I would have loved all well-meaning Nigerians to help me out,” he appealed.
All along, they had planned for a small family – a girl and two boys. But then, their two children all turned out to be boys. They then planned to have another baby, praying to God that the third baby would be a girl. Well, they got what they wanted – only that it was way beyond their expectations. Mrs. Ejike was delivered of a set of three bouncing girls!
Mr. Ejike, who was full of gratitude to God for the grace to deliver the babies safely, said he was worried about his babies’ fate due to his lack of visible means of livelihood. His wife too is unemployed. Yet, taking care of three new babies with two other children is no piece of cake.
“I will really appreciate a job or empowerment for me to meet up with the responsibility of taking good care of these children. They are gifts from God, and we can’t blame God. As Christians, we believe things will still turn around for good. That is why we are appealing to good-hearted Nigerians to come to our rescue,” he pleaded.
Anyone wishing to help the family may reach

BOY - HEART - SURGERY

Three-year-old needs N10m for heart surgery

Nkiru Odinkemelu
Three-year-old Wilfred Chisimdiri Ugoh has been in agony since his first day on earth. The boy suffers from a congenital heart disease.
To correct this and forestall irreversible and life-threatening complications, he needs N10 million for an open heart surgery in an Indian hospital.
A sight of him immediately tells you that all is not well. He looks pale; sometimes his skin turns blue. You might see him steady a minute and the next moment he is gasping for breath.
At three, he still exhibits the features of a baby that is under a year. He can neither crawl nor stand. He cannot communicate and takes no food besides pap.
Wilfred’s troubles started when his mother, Bethel Ugoh, then a student of Ebonyi State University, started experiencing some bleeding from her first trimester. The condition kept her in and out of hospital until it resulted in a premature birth.
At five months, the little baby began to show some irregular traits, and regular visits to the hospital began. It was only in his ninth month that a cardiologist at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abakaliki, discovered that he had a hole in the heart. And, ever since, life has not been the same for the family.
In 2016, a few weeks after Bethel joined her husband in Lagos, the baby started vomiting and his colour turned blue. He was rushed to the nearest clinic, from where he was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). From there, the boy was referred to LUTH.“After all the tests, they frankly said they could not handle it here in Nigeria. They said we should look for money and take him abroad,” the mother said.
On January 19, 2017, a fund-raising appeal letter was issued to the family by Dr. O.J. Sokunbi of LUTH. But even that has not helped the family raise funds to address the boy’s ailment.
Before all these started, Mr. Ugoh had three shops where he sold foodstuff. But today, his business has collapsed. The baby’s mother, a graduate of accountancy education, could not secure a job due to the severity of his illness. The family has also been abandoned by family and friends, it was gathered. Getting money to buy food and medication has become a difficult task. The boy’s drugs cost N3,500 every day.
An Italy-based organisation, the Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery, was recently in the country to do free surgical operation for cardiac patients, especially children. But the family was told, after some tests, that the boy’s case was not in its surgical criteria.
“My child is just living by God’s grace,” said Bethel. “He has gone many times, but God revived him. The pain is severe, and he does not sleep even at night. Neither do we. As a mother, I feel like taking his pains but that’s not possible.
“We are appealing to the government, corporate bodies and all good people of Nigeria to show mercy on us and this little boy. We have spent everything we have. We don’t have landed properties or any other thing to sell. Please help us to save our son’s life.”
The parents of the boy may be reached on 08032293777 and 08085853139. Donations may be sent to the Diamond Bank account name Chisimdirindu Wilfred Ugoh. The account number is 0088720161.

widowed by herdsmen; How herders slaughtered my husband in his farm, dropped his corpse under a tree – Benue widow

Widowed by herdsmen

— 20th January 2018

How herders slaughtered my husband in his farm, dropped his corpse under a tree – Benue widow
Linus Oota, Lafia
Anyone who has not heard the full story will consider Doosur Blessing Igbana, 37, a lucky survivor of the recent herdsmen attack in Nasarawa State that led to the killing of 25 people. A full account shows that her situation is as tragic as that of the dead. Her husband and father of her four children was killed two days earlier before their village was overran by rampaging herdsmen. Widowed and now a refugee, the 37-year-old is condemned to continuing life’s journey alone saddled with the onerous task of bringing up four children all of whom are under 10 years.
Saturday Sun located the widow in South Primary School Keana, one of the IDPs camp created by the Nasarawa State Government.
In an atmosphere tensed with sorrow, Doosur Blessing Igbana obliged Saturday Sun with an emotional account of how her husband, Apuur Igbana, left their house on January 3, 2018 with his bicycle and went to his farm to uproot cassava without a premonition that his path would cross those of killer herdsmen that would murder him in cold blood.
Apuur, 42, had lived his entire life from birth to death in Iorna village of Keana Local Government Area.
The tragic irony is that the deceased had many friends among the indigenous herdsmen around the village.
Day of death
After some efforts, Doosur was sufficiently calm to reconstruct the events of the tragic day.
“On the evening of January 3,” she began, “he left for his farm at about 4 pm with his bicycle to get some cassava so that we can mill akpu since we had exhausted the food in the house during Christmas and New Year celebrations. He didn’t want us to follow him because it was in the evening and he promised not to waste time. He was a man of his words. We became worried when he didn’t return by 7 pm. We were afraid to trace him to the farm because of the security report circulating.
“Early the next morning, myself and my first son, as well as a relation, went to the farm. At the farm, we saw his bicycle. Tied to it was a sack of cassava. My son first saw his father’s lifeless body a distance away from the bicycle and he screamed ‘daddy, daddy.

“I couldn’t believe that I was seeing my husband’s body. We saw machete and axe cuts on his neck and stomach. In fact, they butchered him anyhow and dropped his body under a tree. We rushed back home to tell other villagers who went back to the farm to pick his body. We buried him the next day because his corpse was already decaying.”
Two days later, a gang of armed herdsmen invaded the entire village and displaced the villagers.
Difficult days ahead
Before setting out for his farm, the late Apuur Igbana had asked his wife to prepare food for him.
The poignant recollection brought tears to the widow’s eyes, who broke down again, wailing: “Little did I know he would not eat again and that will be the last time I would see him.”
Doosur cried: “Losing your partner in his prime is a lifetime scar that can never be healed. It is traumatic.”
Her husband’s death is like a bad dream she wished she could wake up from.  “There is no day I don’t feel loneliness inside me. Life has not been the same without him around. Before death came knocking on January 3, we were inseparable,” she lamented. “My husband gave me a life that can best be describe as a fairy tale. I am mentally tortured when I realise he is no more.”
Her trauma is compounded by the gloomy prospect of raising four children alone.
“I am a poor village woman whose only livelihood is farming. How I will cater for four children now I don’t know. Life will be very tough for me and my children. I cannot cater for them alone. I don’t know where to run to now. I don’t know what to do. People should help me,” she wailed in a voice laden with grief and fear.
The attack on their village further increased the family’s vulnerability. “The worst part of it is that we are now in an IDP camp where everything is insufficient. With four children, I am not finding it easy taking care of the family my husband left behind, especially in camp here.”
Despite her woes, Doosur Blessing Igbana is determined to make the best of whatever opportunity comes her way. She, however, ruled out the idea of re-marrying another husband.
“All I want is that the security agencies should help me find the killers of my husband,” she said.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Help! Boy, 5, needs N4.5m for bladder surgery

The Sun News

Help! Boy, 5, needs N4.5m for bladder surgery

— 12th November 2017

By Chinenye Ezenwa and Rebecca Koluwabo
Looking at Temitope Apansile, one would think that he is a boisterous child, but he is not. In a short while, he would become uncomfortable, holding onto his diaper as a sign that it had filled up with urine and needed to be changed.
The five-year old not only urinates on his body but also passes through a lot of discomfort to do it. This frequent and uncontrollable urinating is a sign of ill health. His father has been taking him to various hospitals in search of a cure but his efforts have been futile. Temitope needs surgery to stay alive.
At the moment, the boy is out of school; he has long been withdrawn from the rest of his peers because of his condition. His father, Wale Apansile, had to withdraw him from school when his condition worsened.
Wale, a bricklayer, has been taking care of his son after his wife left him two years ago due to their son’s condition. He has also been compelled to move into his mother’s house at Akute, as he could no longer pay his rent.
Recounting the painful ordeal, Wale said his son had a malfunctioning bladder and this made him to urinate uncontrollably. He said Temitope only ate light food like pap and noodles.
“If he eats something hard, it would not digest quickly; rather he would have stomach ache. When he takes drugs, it would not digest; it would be seen from his affected scrotum,” he said.
Stressing the severity of his son’s condition he said his urine never came out from his penis but dropped uncontrollably form his separated scrota. He said the boy used about seven sanitary pads daily.
Right now, Temitope needs his scrotum stitched for it is swollen due to excessive urine, which drops from it rather than passing through his penis. This has affected his bladder.
“He can tell when he wants to defecate but not when he wants to urinate.
“I stopped him from going to school due to his worsening condition. I have spent everything I have; that is why I had to relocate to my mother’s house in Akute; I have financial constraints. I sometimes go to work with him or I leave him with my mother,” Wale Apansile said.
According to a letter signed by Dr. Alakoko Temitope, consultant in charge of the paediatrics surgery unit, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the lad was diagnosed with a congenital defect of the lower anterior abdominal wall musculature and bladder known as bladder exstrophy with epispadia complex and this requires urgent medical intervention. The letter further stated that the boy needs N4.5 million for the surgery.
The doctor said, “This condition requires a multiple-staged surgical reconstruction for which he had the first stage repair on the 11th day of life. He will require at least two more staged reconstructions, but the parents have severe financial constraints hence have requested for this medical report to seek support. Kindly accord all necessary assistance.” Donations to save Temitope’s life can be sent to Apansile Wale, GTBank Plc, Account No. 0237910788. His father can be contacted on 08030688658
